A wonderful opportunity to acquire this charming sculpture by renowned artist John W. Mills.
Private collection of John W.Mills - purchased from his estate.
John W. Mills’s Head of a Young Woman with Extended Neck is a studio portrait-bust in painted composite clay set on a wooden base that exemplifies his intimate head studies made alongside his large public commissions. The deliberately elongated neck gives the piece an elegant, upward lift and a sense of poise, while the painted surface and composite medium let Mills model supple features and crisp edges without the weight of bronze.
John W. Mills (1933–2023) was an English sculptor celebrated for powerful public memorials and figurative bronzes; his best-known works include the Monument to the Women of World War II on Whitehall, unveiled by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005, and the National Firefighters Memorial by St Paul’s Cathedral,
